Just finished those last 4 eps of that really great show. *kicks Mother Zucker*
Okay, actually only got to watch 3 3/4 eps because of stupid tape which cut out with 20 minutes to go in the third ep -- the one with Geordi in it. *kicks Mother Zucker again, just because*
The Boomtown rant (with spoilers? for the last 4 eps ever)
~ I never got to watch all of S1, or even in order, so by the time I started, they were already cutting back on its unique POVs format. Watching these last few eps, it's just glaringly obvious that the show had lost its special spark. These last few eps just scream "Generic Cop Show!" Bleh.
~ The second ep had POVs all over the place and then the fourth ep had one or two in the second half hour. Dude, make up your frelling mind. They should have just stopped all together because the POVs seemed like they were randomly thrown in there just to be there. Sort of like a teasing "oh, hey, remember how great this show used to be?" Nya nya.
~ The standalone eps format sucks. The dumbing down of the show sucks. The predictability of the show sucks. For example: Ray telling Katherine they can get into bad guy's voicemail because he probably didn't change the default access code. Dude. If that had worked, I would have gone out and hurt someone. Oh, but they got into the account anyway. Argh. Another example: Teresa just happens to be the one who finds the dead guy. Or Teresa just happens to be in the store when the bad guys take over. Or security guy just happens to have a gun for Teresa to kill the bad guys right before TheDonnie and BubbaGump bust in through the doors to save them. Too easy, dammit. Way too easy! Grrrrr.
~ Speaking of Teresa... Ugh. Just ugh. I didn't see all the S1 eps so I don't get the whole Joel/Teresa shippiness. I just don't see it. TheDonnie can have chemistry with anyone/thing he wants, and I don't blame her for wanting him. I just don't see why he would want her. Joel/Kelly made me sob like a baby in the S1 finale, and I absolutely heart and adore them. So stupid TeresaWench needs to quit the police academy (great, let's really make this show all about generic cops) because we all know it was just a ruse to get closer to Joel.
~ If they wanted more cops, why couldn't they have gotten Ramos back? I heart Ramos.
~ Ranting again about Teresa.... Okay, maybe it's not fair to pick on her, but in these last 4 eps, her "female in distress" role was just so blatant. I was starting to think it had become her show, and that every ep she'd get in some kind of "trouble" and Joel and Bubba would have to go save her or something. Big fat whatever.
~ Last rant about Teresa... Gedrick is my least favorite of the cops on the show, but I would rather see him onscreen with Ray or butting heads with my boyfriend TheDonnie, as long as it means Teresa gets the boot. And dude, when I start gushing about Gedrick's character and loving him more than another character, you know there's seriously something about that other character that's pissing me off.
~ Okay, one final rant about Teresa. No seriously, final one. Andrea... Teresa... Andrea... Teresa... Andrea... Teresa... What did they do, decide there could only be two female regulars (even though Vanessa is a "special guest star," she sure acts like she owns the whole show) and made them pick straws? I miss Andrea. They booted the wrong woman off the show.
~ I hate this show when it doesn't make TheDonnie cry, because goddammit, TheDonnie is so great at angst. But *smap* to him for having a sex dream about "that other chick" when his wife is all lovey dovey to him on his birthday. *sigh* But still I love him and will do anything to see him smap a couple of baddies.
~ I also hate this show when they dangle McNorris onscreen for a minute and then he's gone for the rest of the episode. That is all kinds of wrong. Bring my baby back! Let him do his wonderful monologues! Let him verbally smack a couple of badasses! Let him be pretty and smirky and snarky!
~ Doug Hutchison rocks. I liked how I totally thought he would be a BadGuy since he does that so well, and it turned out that he was NotSoMuch. Doug Hutchison should guest on '24,' because that would be COOL. Or he should guest on 'Alias.' He could be a villain or an agent and he would make that show (or any show to be honest) so much better.
~ I wish the very last new Boomtown ep ever wasn't the Howard Hesseman ep. Hey, I used to watch 'Head of the Class,' but that ep sucked. Not the last thing I want to remember Boomtown for. Couldn't they have just left it with the McNorris ep? :(
~ Final rant: When Mother Zucker wanted to boost the ratings.... what part of "Vanessa Williams" sounded like a good idea? For exactly how many shows has she been a ratings helper? The more eps I watched with her, the more I wanted her to trip and fall into a bad guy's gun or something.... and to have taken Teresa with her.
That being said... I'm glad this show was cancelled. Especially if the quality of the last few eps were an indication of what the rest of the season would have been like. Okay, I lie. I lie A LOT. I love this show, no matter how much it sucks. I'll take a season of crappy Boomtown eps over 95% of the shows on TV right now. I love my Donnie. I love my Neal. I love my Ramos. I love my Ray. Hell, I even love my Gedrick (but only when he and Ray are doing their buddy-buddy thing). I squee'ed at all my boys, laughed with them, laughed at them, and rolled my eyes a lot at all the other people -- all the stuff you do with a show you love. I refuse to believe it's over. Well, mostly because I'm still missing those last 20 minutes of the Geordi ep.
Anyway, I DEMAND Boomtown DVDS. All of S1 with the existing 6 S2 eps. Along with gag reel, deleted scenes, and commentary by TheDonnie and Neal. Oh, and lots and lots of behind the scenes action -- like TheDonnie and Neal nekkid in their dressing rooms, rehearsing their scenes. Or something.
You hear that, Mother Zucker?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I want Boomtown DVDS! HRMPH.
