 This Luck thing? Totally overrated.

I got some makeshift tools to prep my tissue before my tissue actually arrived at 2 PM. No biggie. I could deal with that. Just meant that I had to work a bit faster to get out of there by 5.

Of course, that's when the DamnRoomie decides to call me and reiterate that he thinks the townhouse isn't that much better of an option for that extra $50. Okay. No problem, since I'm not sure if I can make the appointment at 6 anyway. Although I have to admit, I was really curious as to what the townhouse was like inside. But underneath the sweet manipulation of the DamnRoomie's voice, I could hear "Bitch, I've decided I don't want to wait until September to move in, so I still think we should keep the other place even if the traffic problems in that location will be a bigger bitch than you normally are during one of your PMS days." Oh, and there was also a "Um... I'm going to have problems getting my half of the security deposit (which is 1.5 months), so could you foot it?"

Ugh. I know I have enough money somewhere, but I'm really hating the idea of having that much of my own money tied up in the apartment. I've got bills and student loans to pay, ya know. And sometimes, it might be nice to eat once in awhile. I'm not sure about that; I'm just guessing. Grrr. But at least he said he would pay half my cable modem fees even though he doesn't have a computer and giving me the assigned parking space since he's getting the slightly bigger room.

Sigh. So anyway, after I get off the phone and finally get to my experiment....

The power goes out in the lab. (This is where, had I been home, I would have closed all the shades and crawled back into bed.) Actually, the power goes out in the entire building. We have to prop open all the doors because we're scared the lack of electricity means the doors won't open, which they do since they're on a different power supply, thankfully. The backup generator kicks in, but that's only a few scattered lights. So I keep prepping, thinking the power will come back on pretty quickly. Um... just as I finish prepping and trying to figure out what I can do without electricity (damn our dependence!!), my new boss tells me to just forget it and put the tissue away and do something else. And right at that moment...

The fire alarms kick in. (Had I already been in bed, under the covers, I would have crawled under the bed with a couple bottles of liquor. Vodka, maybe. Or tequila. Or whatever will make me the drunkest fastest.) When the main power goes down, they resort to battery power, and when the batteries run low, they go off. So...

Everyone in the building ended up outside. In the heat and humidity. And wouldn't it have been hilarious if the skies just opened up and it started pouring the way it did yesterday? Only that didn't happen. Stupid me didn't bring my stuff outside with me or else I would have just left. We ended up standing outside for a good half hour, and no one from Safety or Security came by to see what was going on, so it was doubtful that anyone even knew that a good 30 people were milling around in the parking lot. The main building apparently was unaffected so a bunch of people went there for the AC.

Finally, after someone calls the Safety people, the alarms shut down and we go back in. Only to find the power still out. So... I bust ass to clean up my experiment. And wouldn't you know it. As soon as I'm finished packing everything away, the power returns. Luckily, my boss just told me to go home and forget today even happened. And because I'm a lazy ass, I decided that the apartment we have is good enough and I'll just deal with the traffic problems. Hey, I live in Jersey. The entire state is a traffic nightmare, so what's an extra half hour navigating traffic hell just to leave/go back to the apartment every day? So called the townhouse guy and said I wouldn't be able to make it. Eh. If I don't actually see it, then I won't know what I'm missing, and I'm okay with that as long as I get to go home early. After all, the other apartment is supposedly a Great Apartment. Just in a crappy location. Oh well.

It's time to relax because today has been a day filled with Murphy's Law. Ridiculous. Just... ridiculous.
